Tips on hiring a disc jockey
Provided by The Sound Stylus Disc Jockey Service
Questions to ask disc jockeys:
- Do you have back up equipment?
- Do you provide Master of Ceremony services?
- What is your attire?
- Can we visit an area where you are performing?
(some dj's allow this at services being provided to "other than weddings",
like most you wouldn't want strangers showing up at your wedding.)
- Do you have a contract? (NEVER BOOK A DJ WITHOUT A CONTRACT!!!)
- Can we hear some music selections?
- Do you have a music list?
- Do you have an information sheet (this will let the DJ know about the entire
event and the people planning it)
- Do you have references?
- What is your payment policy & deposit policy?
- Are you able to stay beyond scheduled time if needed?
- Are you part of a union?
Additional Things to Remember:
- Make sure the DJ your hiring is the DJ that will be at your event. Some
people act as DJ brokers and the person that does your wedding is not
necessarily the person you spoke with or saw.
- Certain lighting like "strobes" should not be used in the event you have a
person with epilepsy.
- Some people ask for a video, although a great idea, this can be edited to make
anyone look terrific.
